One of the 10 most wanted criminals in Texas was captured in Houston Tuesday. Twenty-nine year old Gilberto Ruvalcaba, a Sureño 13 gang member, was wanted for parole violation. According to a Texas Department of Public Safety press release, Ruvalcaba’s arrest was not the result of a tip and no reward will be paid.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force, including DPS Criminal Investigations Division Special Agents, acting on investigative information, located and apprehended Ruvalcaba near a Houston residence where he was thought to be residing. Texas Highway Patrol also assisted in the arrest.
He was convicted in El Paso County in 2011 on charges of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to nine years in prison. The conviction was from an incident that occurred in El Paso where Ruvalcaba and two accomplices robbed a store clerk by threatening her with a pistol. He was paroled to Houston in August 2015, and violated his parole a short time later.
Ruvalcaba is the first Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive arrested in 2016.
