The Butler Bullodogs overtook the Texas Tech University Red Raiders 71-61 for the win in the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament.
According to NCAA.com, in a tight matchup between eight and nine seeds, Butler prevailed over Texas Tech with a combination of 3-point shooting and tough defense down the stretch. The eighth-seeded Red Raiders ended their season with four losses in their final five games, while the Bulldogs advanced past the first round of the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season.
Kellen Dunham was Player of the Game. He led with 23 points for the Bulldogs while shooting 8 of 15 from the field and 5 of 9 from beyond the arc. He also added two rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Butler win.
Butler shot 49 percent from the field while Texas Tech shot 46.3 percent. The Bulldogs were 9 of 17 from 3-point range; the Red Raiders were 7 of 18 from beyond the arc. Both teams had 14 turnovers in the game.
Butler will face Virginia or Hampton Saturday.
