The new H-E-B officially opened in San Angelo on October 20, at 5502 Sherwood Way.
This new installation of the popular chain offers many of the same amenities of other stores with a few changes.
H-E-B ‘2’ as it has been called by some, is a 92,000-square foot building with a spacious layout.
Popular pre-existing features such as Sushiya!, Cooking Connection, fresh cheese selections and daily, freshly prepared bakery creations greet guests as they enter the store.
An expanded Blooms, the floral section, and a new edition, called Meal Simple, also welcomes customers.
Meal Simple is completely new to H-E-B and offers consumers various choices of freshly prepared meals and sides that can be taken home and put in the oven for an average of 15 minutes. Some prepared selections include salmon, feta & spinach pinwheels, bacon wrapped asparagus and many other fresh preparations.
Unit Manager, Nick George, spoke to San Angelo NOW to express his enthusiasm for the new store’s newest edition,
“This store is set up to welcome guests with a beautiful intersection of food and flavor.” George said. “People still want to cook, they want fresh meals in a timely manner and Meal Simple offers them that.”
H-E-B also offers another new addition called Curbside.
Public Affairs Manager, Julie Bedingfield, explained that this is a new feature, which will allow people to place their order online. Customers can have their groceries gathered by staff ahead of time and ready for pickup at a convenient time set up by the buyer online. There is a pickup fee of $4.95 included, however, the first four pickup fees are waived for new members.
Along with these features, the store offers a wine sampling station and local Texas craft brews. If you visited last weekend’s Craft Brew Festival, you’re likely to find your choice of your favorite samples right in this section. The store also boasts of an extended pet section. The pharmacy is even filling pet prescriptions.
As if that isn’t enough to draw you to the new H-E-B, the new location also offers another addition, an indoor garden section.
During a preview event on October 19, H-E-B presented the community with $20,000 donations divided between local charities, including San Angelo Firefighters Foundation, Concho Valley PAWS, Boys & Girl’s Club and the San Angelo School’s Foundation.
A new store needs a new mascot, and the patrons of H-E-B are very proud of the newest member of their family. In front of the store sits a locally designed and created sheep named “H-E-Bewtifully Woven” who sits in the parking lot for guests to see as they arrive.
