Mother charged in the murders of her two children, ages 6 and 7

A mother is being charged with murder after her two children, Liliana Hernandez, 7, and Rene Pasztor, 6, were found dead on Monday in a car behind Elkhart Police Department in Indiana. 



An Amber Alert was issued for both children prior to their bodies being discovered and it was believed their non-custodial mother, Amber Pasztor, allegedly abducted the children.

Elkhart police spokesman Sgt. Chris Snyder said in a press conference that Pasztor approached the officer and made contact with him. She advised the officer there were two dead people in the backseat of her car.

The officer confirmed the bodies that were lying in the backseat were children and dead, the car was linked to the earlier Amber Alert.

The Amber Alert was issued at approximately 12:30 p.m. Monday and the children were believed to be in extreme danger; both were last seen at approximately 6:21 a.m. The alert included the children were likely taken by their non-custodial mother, Pasztor.

Snyder said authorities are looking for Frank Macomber, 65, who allegedly may have some information to assist with the investigation.

According to the Associated Press, Pasztor was arrested and charged with two counts of murder of her children.  

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding thee death of the children. Snyder did not reveal how the children died, and according to the AP, autopsies were scheduled for Tuesday morning in Kalamazoo.

Pasztor is being held in Elkhart County Jail, no information is available on whether she has entered a plea or retained an attorney at this time.
