Moroccan woman arrested for trying to smuggle African teen into Spain in a suitcase

A woman from Morocco has been arrested after a 19-year-old African man was found packed inside her suitcase as she tried to smuggle him into Spain.

The Daily Mail reports the woman was taken into custody by the Spanish Civil Guard in Ceuta, a Spanish enclave next to Morocco, on Dec. 30 after discovering the Gaboan man inside the suitcase.

Approximately 1,100 sub-Saharan African migrants have attempted to cross into Spain from Morocco through Ceuta by storming a border fence. Dozens made it to the top of the barbed wire fence in the early hours before being lifted down by cranes.

Only two of them were allowed into Ceuta to be taken to hospital while the rest were returned to Morocco, the Spanish government said in a statement.
