Missing Midland woman found dead, common-law husband charged with murder

A 41-year-old Midland man has been charged with murder after his missing common-law wife’s body was found by Midland Police Tuesday morning.

According to a press release from the City of Midland, Juan Gonzales was charged with murder after police obtained a warrant for his arrest late Tuesday afternoon.

The Midland Police Department conducted a thorough investigation into the disappearance of 41-year-old Kathy Lujan since Gonzales reported her missing on May 14. At the time, MPD issued a plea in May asking for the public’s help in locating Lujan. According to a release from the City of Midland and the MPD, she was last seen Wednesday, May 11, at a Midland residence.

At the time of his arrest for murder, Gonzales was being held in Midland County Detention Center for unrelated charges.

Statements made by Gonzales to police led them to the location of Lujan’s body at approximately 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was subsequently arrested for the crime.

Lujan’s body was sent to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The investigation into her death is ongoing.
