Memorial service planned for Sonora teen killed in crash

A memorial service has been planned for Stevie J’Dale Smith, the 14-year old Sonora resident who died in a Sutton County vehicle crash Sunday.

A Kerbow Funeral Home online obituary said a  service for the Sonora High School freshman will be held 4:30 p.m Wednesday in the Sonora High School gymnasium, 1717, Tayloe St., preceded by a private family burial.

Honorary pallbearers for the service will be the Bronco Nation.

Visitation is until 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kerbow Funeral Home, 409 E. Second St.

A candlelight vigil is also being planned for 8 p.m. Thursday on the Sonora softball field. “Light the Diamond” for Stevie Smith was announced on the Sonora Broncos Facebook page. A woman who answered the telephone at Sonora High School said that she was aware it was being planned, but did not have details about the vigil. The post said, “If you would like, bring a balloon to set free in her memory. Please dress warmly and bring a chair.”

The online obituary for Stevie Smith also states that a Stevie J’Dale Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund will be established in honor of her twin sister, Sterling Smith. Donations for the fund can be mailed to: The Bank and Trust, P.O. Box 895, Sonora, Texas 76950.
