Medical issues cause of wreck on U.S. Highway 87

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Justin Baker, medical issues caused the driver of a Ford Mustang to lose consciousness while driving on U.S. Highway 87 Sunday. At approximately 6 p.m. DPS troopers responded to a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Hwy 87 near Roberts Road.

The driver of the 2008 Ford Mustang, Grant Hill, 19, from Lubbock passed out while driving around a curve and drove off the left side of the roadway. The Mustang struck a guardrail before coming to rest on the roadway bridge.

Hill was transported to Shannon Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries. The passenger in the car Christopher Birkenfeld II, 20, from Sanderson, was not injured.
