Man steals bucket of gold worth $1.6 million in New York

The New York Police Department recently released security camera footage of a man strolling by an opened armored truck in midtown Manhattan, wrapping his arms around a bucket sitting inside the truck and casually waddling down the street with his heavy, new acquisition.

The thief was given about a 20-second window when one guard went inside a nearby building to make a pickup and the other guard went to the front seat of the truck to get his cell phone.
Police believe the suspect didn’t know what was in the bucket — $1.6 million in gold flakes.
NYPD Detective Martin Pastor told WNBC, “I think he just saw an opportunity, took the pail and walked off.”
Security camera footage shows the suspect continuing down the street for several blocks, struggling with the 86-pound bucket — stopping every few minutes to take a breather — before getting into a van and driving away.
Police are still searching for the suspect, who is believed to be in Miami or Orlando.
