A gunman was wounded in a shoot out after he fired shots at an officer and a DPS trooper early Tuesday afternoon in Big Spring.
The unnamed suspect first exchanged gunfire with officers after the Big Spring Police Department was called to an AT&T store on Gregg Street with complaints of a man with a gun acting suspicious.
Officers arrived at approximately 1 p.m. to find a man in a vehicle matching the suspect’s description and attempted to make a traffic stop. The suspect got out of his vehicle and fired multiple shots before entering the vehicle again and fleeing the scene, according to CBS 7.
A short pursuit ended when the suspect exited his vehicle near the intersection of 8th Street and Owens Street and again shot at the officers, who returned fire, wounding the suspect.
The officer and trooper were unharmed during the incident.
The suspect was airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock. His condition is unknown at this time. He has been charged with attempted capital murder.
