Man receives 5 years in penitentiary for assault family violence charge

A man who has been charged with assault family violence was sentenced to five years in prison Monday after accepting a plea agreement. Martin Valadez’s charge was enhanced to a second degree felony charge because of a previous assault family violence charge.

According to court documents, on Dec. 12, 2014, Valadez bit his girlfriend in the face after consuming alcohol and getting into an argument over a post on the social media site, Instagram. When officers arrived at the residence on East 29th Street, the victim told police Valadez jumped on top of her and bit her below her right eye. Officers did see a cut and extreme swelling below her eye that needed medical attention.

Valadez was previously convicted of assault family violence on Jan. 29, 2014, in Tom Green County.
