A 30-year old San Angelo man was arrested Saturday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated kidnapping.
According to a release from the San Angelo Police Department, Orlando Gatica, was arrested after police responded to a call of a subject with a weapon in the 1000 block of Tarver Street. When police arrived, Gatica had left the scene in a private vehicle. After speaking to one of the victims, Julio Arzeno, police learned that Gatica allegedly threatened to shoot him while holding a gun.
During the investigation, Gatica was observed driving at a high rate of speed in the vicinity. Gatica fled on foot when police caught up with him in the 200 block of South Browning Street. After initially losing sight of the suspect, police located Gatica in a shed behind a residence on South Browning. He was taken into custody without incident, the release states. Officers were able to locate the weapon Gatica had in his possession, which turned out to be a BB gun that looked real.
A second victim, Makishia Mejia, was located in the vehicle that Gatica was driving, the release said. She told police she was at her residence on Tarver Street when Gatica arrived and threatened Arzeno. He then allegedly told her to get into his vehicle or he would shoot the house. Concerned for the safety of her children, Mejia complied.
Gatica was transported to the Tom Green County Jail.
