Man arrested walking near Kerrville murder scene formerly lived in San Angelo

A 52-year old employee of the Ranch Radio Group on Fredericksburg Highway in Kerrville was found dead in the company’s parking lot by another employee Wednesday.

The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the death shortly after the discovery of the body of Sherry Ruth Francis and began an investigation, according to a press release from Kerr County Sheriff W.R. “Rusty” Hierholzer.

The release said at approximately 7:15 a.m., Gilbert Manriquez, 35, who previously lived in San Angelo was taken into custody after he was found walking on Fredericksburg Highway, north of the location. Manriquez has a violent history and confessed to the Francis’ murder.

Manriquez had no known association with the radio station or to Francis and Hierholzer said this appears to be a random act of violence. Murder charges will be filed on Manriquez.

Francis was not from the Kerrville area and had only been an employee of the radio station for one month, the release said.

Her next of kin, who live out of state, were notified by the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office.

Manriquez has an extensive criminal record in San Angelo. Charges include multiple counts of assault causes bodily injury family member, public intoxication, driving while license suspended and criminal trespass.

His current address, according to Kerr County Jail records, is in the 900 block of Junction Highway.
