Lucas Oil Drag Boat Race Series officials announced this week that they will host two races annually at Lake Nasworthy in San Angelo, beginning this year. Lucas Oil has taken over promoting the event, that was previously promoted by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce.
“The direction that the series is going, we’re self-promoting more of our races. We’ll have more continuity from event to event all over the country.” Ken Dollar with Lucas Oil DBRS said about the decision to begin self-promoting the races, not only in San Angelo, but series-wide.
Jenni Campbell has agreed to manage the event for LODBRS as she has in the past, along with Blake Burchard, Sandra Pomroy and others who have been responsible for the success of the event over the past 10 years.
“The San Angelo Drag Boat Board is excited to continue our partnership with the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series. We look forward to helping Lucas Oil produce two races in San Angelo, and we thank you all for your continued support of one of the greatest drag boat races in the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series.” Campbell said.
Campbell said based on the studies that have been conducted in the past, the drag boat races have a $3-3.5 million economic impact on San Angelo on event weekends.
LODBRS will kick off the first San Angelo event on June 23-25, which will be exactly like the annual event previously held in San Angelo and will return to Lake Nasworthy Sept. 30 for a two-day event.
Those who have supported the San Angelo race in the past by securing RV spots, viewing spots and VIP tables will be contacted in the next few weeks for renewal options and reservations. Anyone who is interested in making a new reservation may inquire via email at email@example.com or call Campbell at 325-212-8604.
