Local advocate, educator, Garcia-Ward, to receive national award Wednesday

Crystal Garcia-Ward from the Concho Valley Rape Crisis Center will receive the 2016 Visionary Voice Award from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center at a presentation at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the CVRCC, 36 W. Beauregard Ave, Ste. B100.

Each year, the center honors advocates and community educators nationally for excellence in anti-sexual violence work. The Visionary Voice is awarded to one person per state who is nominated by the state’s coalition.

Presenting the award on behalf of the National Sexual Violence Resource Center will be Ted Rutherford from the Texas Association Against Sexual Violence.

An open house for the center will also be held at 5:30 p.m.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
