Little Elm police officer dies after being shot while responding to call; suspect killed after standoff

An 18-year veteran of law enforcement was killed by an armed suspect Tuesday while responding to a call of a man with a gun.  After being shot by a suspect, Little Elm Police Department Det. Jerry Walker, 48, was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

Little Elm Chief of Police Rodney Harrison announced Walker’s death Tuesday.

Walker was the father of four children, ranging in ages from months old to 22 years.

Harrison said the suspect barricaded himself in a home and began a standoff with police. An elderly relative of the suspect was extracted safely from the home through a window.

The suspect was confirmed dead by law enforcement after holding the police in a standoff for several hours.
