Lee Ranch kicks off annual fundraiser for West Texas Boys Ranch Friday

The annual team roping and cookoff fundraiser hosted by the Lee Ranch to benefit the West Texas Boys Ranch kicks off Friday at 9722 N. U.S. Hwy 277.

The three-day event will start with a friends and family goat roping event at 6 p.m. Friday. The roping will be an adult/child (10 and under) team combination. Entry fee is $10 and the top youth roper will receive a trophy saddle and the top adult will receive a buckle.

On Saturday, there will be various roping contests including a youth dummy roping and a special dummy roping featuring boys from the Boys Ranch. Cost for Saturday events is $40 per person and $80 per team. The top prizes for Saturday’s ropers are two livestock trailers.

A barbecue cookoff competition, featuring brisket, pork ribs, chicken and jalapeno poppers will be held Saturday. Registration for the cookoff is open through Friday. Entry fee for the cookoff is $250. First through third place prizes are 50 percent of the payback.

Local band, Clearwater, will perform during a dance at 8 p.m. Donations will be accepted as admission to the dance. During the band’s intermission, a live auction will be held.

Final roping contests will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday. Cost for entry for Sunday’s events will be $40 per person or $80 per team. Sunday’s winners will receive Todd Jeys breast collars.
