Juvenile arrested after Carlsbad shooting

A 16-year old has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a Jan. 8 shooting that resulted in the injury of a 14-year old. On Jan. 8, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a gunshot victim that was in the Shannon Medical Center Emergency Room. Upon arrival the deputies met with San Angelo Police Department officers and learned that the 14-yeard old victim had been shot by the 16-year old, according to a release from the TGCSO.

The two juveniles are not related.

The shooting took place in the 11500 block of Midland Street in Carlsbad. While conducting their investigation, deputies learned the handgun used in the incident was located in a vehicle at the hospital. The handgun was recovered and placed in evidence.

Deputies further established that the handgun had been stolen earlier in the evening by the 16-year old. The Tom Green County Criminal Investigation Division is conducting the investigation.

On Jan. 11, additional information obtained during the course of the investigation was presented to the District Attorney’s Office by the Criminal Investigation Division and a verbal pick up order was issued for the 16-year old.

The juvenile has been taken into custody and is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The juvenile is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center.
