Illinois mother sacrifices life for newborn baby in house fire

A new mother sacrificed her life for her 12-day-old baby girl Monday when a fire broke out in their home.

As reported by KWQC News, 21-year-old Shelby Carter strapped her daughter in a car seat and dropped her out of a window to save her life.

Fire crews later found Carter’s dead body on the second floor of the home near a window.

People who knew Carter said she always wanted to be a mother.

“She definitely dreamed of her baby and was very much looking forward to having her child,” family friend Stacy Unhold said.

Carter’s mother is now with the baby in the hospital who suffers from minor injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
