The two murder suspects apprehended after a vehicle chase earlier this week will be transported back to Houston this week after spending time in the Menard County Jail.
The incident happened Monday when Menard County Sheriff Burl Hagler attempted to pull over a Kia Sorento for speeding in Menard County. Sheriff Hagler said the two ignored warning lights and continued to travel at speeds reaching 140 mph. The chase continued into Concho County where Hagler was assisted by Deputy Cody Capps with the Concho County Sheriff’s Department.
The chase ended with the two suspects crashing into a barbecue restaurant in Eola. An elderly couple was in the restaurant at the time of the crash. The couple was treated by paramedics but refused transport to the hospital.
Hagler arrested Bryant Watts and Aaron Jones and transported the pair to the Menard County Jail. Hagler said Watts confessed to shooting Philip Frank Panzica in Houston. Panzica, Jones, Watts and Panzica’s fiance were all riding in the Sorento when Watts shot Panzica from behind. They let Panzica’s fiance out of the car and fled in her vehicle.
Panzica made national news in February for allegedly having sex on a Ferris wheel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Clark County court documents show Panzica was charged with commit certain sex acts in public.
Watts is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and capital murder. Jones is charged with capital murder.
Hagler said the two will be transported to Harris County by Friday.
