High school football player in coma after sustaining injury in playoff game

Woodlands High School senior Grant Milton is in ICU after collapsing on the sidelines as the result of suffering a head injury during a third-quarter play against Austin Bowie Saturday at McLane Stadium in Waco.

Milton was treated on the field and taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery. Both his parents were in attendance and rode with him to the hospital.

In a Facebook post, Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton wrote, “I just spoke with Grant’s dad and let him know that Grant and his family have Waco pulling for them. They appreciate the thoughts and prayers.”

According to KWTX, about 700 people attended a prayer vigil for Milton on Sunday night in The Woodlands and a GoFundMe page has been set up to help his family deal with medical expenses. So far the page has raised more than $30,000 of a $42,000 goal.

The Woodlands defeated Austin Bowie 52-31 and will play Round Rock Saturday in Waco.
