A 2007 Chevrolet Aveo and a 2011 Dodge pickup collided head-on Tuesday on Farm to Market Road 2105.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt Justin Baker at approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday, the Aveo was traveling westbound on Farm to Market Road 2105 and the Dodge 2500 pickup was traveling eastbound. For unknown reasons, the Aveo lost control and drove head-on into the pickup.
One female occupant, Sandra Meza, 56, of Robert Lee, was the driver of the Aveo. The driver of the Dodge was Josh Rios, 29, of San Angelo and had two other occupants with him, Scott Fulcher, 28, and Alan Bermea, 20.
Rios sustained minor injuries and was transported to Shannon Medical Center; his vehicle’s occupants were treated at the scene and released.
Meza, was transported to Shannon and succumbed to her injuries. She was pronounced dead at Shannon.
A preliminary investigation indicates, the Aveo was traveling at an unsafe speed and failed to heed a warning sign advising “Loose Gravel.” The driver of the Aveo failed to drive in a single land and lost control of her vehicle, veered into the path of the Dodge and struck the pickup on the roadway.
Baker said, “Texas Department of Transportation will have signs indicating loose gravel, in those conditions use caution and a lower speed in construction zones, gravel can result in losing control of your vehicle. Be mindful and obeyed by all warning signs.”
