Grackles to be trapped in city parks

City of San Angelo

Grackles will be the focus of a research project at seven city parks this month in an effort for Angelo State University researchers to learn more about the roosting habits of the birds.  Along with two undergraduates, Dr. Ben Skipper, ASU assistant professor of biology, will trap 30 grackles using nets and will attach radio transmitters to the birds. These locators will allow the research team to track the birds through the winter.

In some winter roosts, according to Skipper, thousands of birds can gather causing noise issues and a great deal of feces accumulations.
