In a letter to President Barack Obama Sunday, Governor Greg Abbott requested Individual Assistance for four of the counties in state of disaster.
If the request is granted by the President, citizens in Harris, Fayette, Grimes and Parker may be eligible for Individual Assistance grants up to $33,000 from the federal government, according to the release issued by the Office of the Governor.
Citizens may also be eligible for a low-interest disaster loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
If the counties receive Individual Assistance, more counties may be added to the list if they meet the federal requirements as well.
“As Texans recover from the severe flooding that inundated several areas of Texas, it is crucial they receive the financial assistance needed to restore their communities. In facing these challenges, Texans have displayed enormous courage – with more than 1,000 rescues from the rising waters. With much-needed financial assistance, I am confident Texans will continue to overcome the challenges before them as they begin to rebuild their lives,” said Governor Abbott, according to the release.
