Goodfellow Air Force Base will soon become a regional training site for multiple levels of law enforcement.
The base will provide a mandatory class related to cyber and security threats that could allow for up to 14,000 more students a year.
This class is only offered in Virginia so far.
The base will renovate 24,000 square feet of two buildings in order to provide additional space for classrooms, instructors, and a psychologist. More seating will also be added to the dining room.
The renovation is estimated to be around $8.8 million. The City’s Development Corp has decided to award the base $1.5 million of the city’s half-cent sales tax towards the project
The City’s financial support is contingent upon Tom Green County receiving a Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant.
