It’s Giving Tuesday, time to kick off charitable donations

It’s Giving Tuesday, the time when, after Thanksgiving and Black Friday, many consumers begin their charitable donations for the season.

GivingTuesday.org calls the day, “a Global Day of Giving.” In 2015, the site says more than 700,000 people donated $116.7 million online in more than 70 countries across the world.

Giving Tuesday kicked off in 2012 as a way to support philanthropy by sharing events and resources in one place.

The organization said it uses social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities. Additionally, it said it provides a platform for people to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges.

Locally, there are nonprofit organizations to make donations to online. A database for national and global donations in on GivingTuesday.org.
