UPDATE: 1:30 p.m. – Former First Lady Barbara Bush has been hospitalized “as a precaution after experiencing fatigue and coughing,” according to her husband’s spokesperson.
President Bush’s spokesperson Jim McGrath released a statement Wednesday morning saying the former president was admitted into the ICU to address an acute respiratory problem associated with pneumonia. Doctors performed a procedure on Bush, who was said to be resting comfortably, where he will remain for observation.
In the same statement, McGrath said Barbara Bush had been admitted into Houston Memorial Hospital as a precaution.
ORIGINAL STORY: Former President George HW Bush has been hospitalized in Houston for shortness of breath, according to a statement from his office.
Post-White House spokesman Jim McGrath tweeted early Wednesday that the 92-year-old was taken to Methodist Hospital Saturday. McGrath said Bush is responding “very well to treatments.”
Bush is the oldest living former United States president. He was hospitalized for a week in a Maine in 2015 after falling and breaking a bone in his neck.
