Friday night game ends in loss for Rams

Angelo State baseball team lost a close game of 2-1 against No. 18 West Texas A&M in its first game of the four game series, Friday night.

With the loss, Rams fell to 13-9 overall and 6-3 in the Lone Star Conference. With the win, WT moved up to 18-5 and 7-2 in LSC.

“It was a typical game in Canyon. We just have not made plays when we have to make plays in close games like this one, leaving us on the short end”¬†ASU head coach Kevin Books said.

Rams committed no errors on the field and recorded its single runoff of six hits. Matt Shannon, starting pitcher for ASU threw a complete game and dropped to 2-3 on the season after being credited with the loss.

The Rams will play the Buffs again for a doubleheader starting 4 p.m. Saturday. Bryze Zak is expected to take the mound for ASU in this first game. At the 6:30 p.m. game, DeLaGarza may get the opportunity to improve his 2-0 record from the hill.
