Angelo State baseball team lost a close game of 2-1 against No. 18 West Texas A&M in its first game of the four game series, Friday night.
With the loss, Rams fell to 13-9 overall and 6-3 in the Lone Star Conference. With the win, WT moved up to 18-5 and 7-2 in LSC.
“It was a typical game in Canyon. We just have not made plays when we have to make plays in close games like this one, leaving us on the short end” ASU head coach Kevin Books said.
Rams committed no errors on the field and recorded its single runoff of six hits. Matt Shannon, starting pitcher for ASU threw a complete game and dropped to 2-3 on the season after being credited with the loss.
The Rams will play the Buffs again for a doubleheader starting 4 p.m. Saturday. Bryze Zak is expected to take the mound for ASU in this first game. At the 6:30 p.m. game, DeLaGarza may get the opportunity to improve his 2-0 record from the hill.
