Four file for council seats, chief files for another term

Four individuals filed for seats on the San Angelo City Council Wednesday and San Angelo Police Chief Tim Vasquez has filed for a four-year term. Wednesday was the first day to file for a place on the May 7 ballot.

Daniel Cardenas and Harry Thomas filed for Single Member District 3, a seat currently held by Johnny Silvas, who will not seek reelection.

Candidates so far for Single Member District 5 are R.A. Cantrell and incumbent Elizabeth Grindstaff.

Tim Vasquez has filed for reelection as San Angelo’s chief of police.

No one has filed for the Single Member District 1 council seat, which is open.

If elected to the City Council, members will serve for three-year terms. The term for police chief is four years.

The filing period for the May ballot is open through Feb. 19. Candidates seeking office can file in the City Clerk’s office in City Hall, 72 W. College Ave. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To vote in the May election, voters must be registered by April 7.
