Former Rangers pitcher shot to death in Arkansas

Former Texas Rangers pitcher John Barfield was shot to death Saturday after an altercation with an acquaintance.

William Goodman, 59, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Goodman allegedly went to Barfield’s apartment in downtown Little Rock Saturday night and the men got into an argument. Goodman then pulled a handgun and shot Barfield, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Barfield played in 65 games for the Rangers from 1989 to 1991, including 11 starts, going 8-8 with a 4.72 ERA in 139.1 IP in the majors.

The left-hander pitched in the minors from 1992-1997, and then in the Independent Atlanta League in 1998.
