Five Texas cities make list for best place to live for young families

Austin topped the list of 156 U.S. cities named as the best for young families, according to a report by Value Penguin. Four more Texas cities, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Corpus Christi, ranked in the top 50.

Rounding out the top five best U.S. cities on the list were  Houston, Raleigh, North Carolina, Des Moines, Iowa, and Dallas.

Value Penguin took 16 data points from eight sources and interviewed three experts to compile the list.

Economic strength, unemployment rate, commute time, divorce rate, cost of living, real estate taxes, income versus rent and mortgage and healthcare were among the data points used in the list.

Wichita Falls (2) and Abilene (3) made the top five list for buying a home while Austin ranked number 3 in education and environment.

Other Texas cities on the list of 156 cities deemed best for young families include Amarillo (60), El Paso (61), Waco (62), Lubbock (66), Brownsville (74), Abilene (81) and Wichita Falls (111).
