Five major wrecks within hours of each other in San Angelo Monday

Five major wrecks occurred on San Angelo streets Monday. Here are the details from the San Angelo Police Department:

5:55 p.m.: Crash occurred in the 4200 block of West Houston Harte Expressway westbound.

Crash narrative: Operator of #1 was traveling westbound on West Houston Harte when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a concrete barrier before coming to a stop on the expressway.

Unit 1: Beige 2005 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 66-year-old San Angelo man. The driver was transported to Shannon Medical Center for non-incapacitating injury. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and the front airbag deployed.

The officer listed “fail to control speed” as the contributing factor to this crash.  No citations were issued.

 

5:56 p.m.: Crash occurred in the 4100 block of West Houston Harte Expressway westbound.

Crash narrative: Units 1, 2 and 3 were driving west on Houston Harte Expressway.  There was an crash that occurred just prior, which caused traffic to slow down. Unit 1 made a faulty evasive maneuver to avoid hitting Unit 2. Upon doing so, Unit 1 struck the passenger side compartment of Unit 3 as well as the back left corner of Unit 2. Unit 1 was issued a written warning for unsafe lane change.

Unit 1: White 2000 Ford F150 driven by a 30-year-old San Angelo woman. She was not injured, was wearing her seatbelt and the airbag did not deploy.

Unit 2: Red 2012 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 33-year-old San Angelo woman. She was not injured, she was wearing her seatbelt and the airbag did not deploy.

Unit 3: Orange 1999 Ford F250 driven by a 33-year-old man from Robert Lee. He was not injured. He was wearing a seatbelt and his air bag did not deploy. His 34-year-old female passenger was not injured.  She was wearing her seatbelt and her airbag did not deploy.

 

6:17 p.m.: Crash occurred in the 4200 block of Sunset Drive.

Crash narrative: Unit 1 was making a left hand turn onto the 4200 block of Sunset Drive and did not see Unit 2 traveling southbound on Sunset Drive resulting in a collision.

Unit 1: Black 2012 Hyundai coupe driven by a 21-year-old San Angelo man. He was not injured, was wearing a seatbelt and the airbag did not deploy.

He was issued a citation for failure to yield right-of-way from a private drive.

Unit 2: Red 2014 Chevrolet Cruze driven by a 53-year-old woman from Miles. She was transported to Shannon Medical Center for incapacitating injury. She was wearing a seatbelt and the airbag did not deploy.

 

6:22 p.m.: Crash occurred in the 2000 block of South Bryant Boulevard.

Crash narrative: Unit 1 was traveling north on South Bryant Boulevard. Unit 2 was traveling south on Bryant. Unit 1 made a left turn in front of Unit 2. Unit 1 was struck by Unit 2. Unit 1 was pushed and struck Unit 3. Unit 3 was sitting in the left hand turn lane at a red light.

Unit 1: Red 2010 Audi coupe driven by an 18-year-old man from Eldorado. The man was not injured, was wearing his seatbelt and the airbag did not deploy.

He was issued a citation for failure to yield the right-of-way turning left.

Unit 2: Gray 2008 Honda Accord driven by a 75-year-old San Angelo man. He was not injured, was wearing his seatbelt and the front airbag deployed.

Unit 3: White 1997 Chevrolet KC 1500 driven by a 34-year-old San Angelo man. He indicated he may be injured but refused an ambulance. He was wearing a seatbelt and his front airbag did deployed.

 

7:41 p.m.: Crash occurred in the 2500 block of Colorado Avenue.

Crash narrative:Vehicle 1 was actively leaving the area of a drag race that he was involved in where the other vehicle was stopped by police. Vehicle 1 was eastbound on Colorado Avenue at a high rate of speed. Vehicles 2 and 3 were legally parked and unoccupied at the time of the crash. Vehicle 1 collided with Vehicle 2 and flipped the vehicle onto its left side. Vehicle 2 was pushed into vehicle 3 and came to a stop in the yard of 2530 Colorado Ave. Vehicle 1 came to a stop in the yard of 2540 Colorado Avenue.

Unit 1: Black 2005 Ford Mustang driven by a 25-year-old San Angelo man. He was transported to Shannon Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of incapacitating injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt and his front airbag deployed. Charges are pending. A press release will follow.

Unit 2: Black 2008 Toyota 4Runner, parked/unoccupied.

Unit 3: Maroon 2003 GMC Envoy, parked/unoccupied.
