A home on the 700 block of Velma Street was destroyed by fire early Monday morning. San Angelo Fire Department firefighters responded to the call at approximately 7:15 a.m.
“The first arriving units reported a fully involved residence,” said SAFD Battalion Chief Royce Owen. “We made a defensive attack on this, which means nobody on the interior until we knocked it down to the point where it was tenable to go inside.”
Once firefighters had the fire under control, they were able to go into the structure and extinguish the flames in the home.
The worst fire damage appeared to be in the front corner of the home, which Owen believes could be a den area. There is damage throughout the house, Owen said.
According to Owen, a primary search was conducted and there did not appear to be anyone inside the home at the time of the fire. Firefighters will conduct a secondary, more thorough search of the property to ensure there was no one in the structure when the fire occurred.
No information is available on the cause of the fire.
