DPS trooper seizes $79K in U.S. currency in Tom Green County

More than $79,000 in U.S. currency was seized by a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Thursday in  Tom Green County. DPS and Criminal Investigations Division (CID) Special Agents $79,835 in U.S. currency as a result of a traffic stop.
At approximately 9:37 p.m. Thursday, a DPS trooper initiated a traffic stop on a 2002 Dodge Neon traveling northbound on U.S. 87, according to a press release from DPS.

During the traffic stop, the trooper observed signs of suspicious behavior displayed by both the driver and passenger of the vehicle. A consensual search was conducted, which lead to the discovery of the cash hidden within the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Romero Reyes Gonzalez, 27, of Greeley, Colo.; and the passenger was identified as Cenobia Edith Gonzalez, 35, of Odessa.

Both were arrested, charged with money laundering, a third-degree felony, and booked at Tom Green County Jail.
