Downtown San Angelo Inc. has been recognized by the Texas Historical Commission for successful annual progress as a designated Main Street community. San Angelo is one of 58 Texas cities to receive the designation in 2016. 2016 is the Main Street program’s 35th anniversary.

Local programs focus on responsibly using a community’s historic assets to benefit economically and increase the quality of life. While the Main Street programs are staffed, they rely on community volunteers to do the legwork. Volunteers donated more than 115,000 hours of work to the program in 2015.
