Downpours in Houston shuts down all transit services

All transit services in Houston have been suspended because of widespread flooding in the region, according to a press release from Houston METRO.

Local bus service, Park & Ride and light rail, METROLift and HOV/HOT lanes are all closed because of the rains in the area.

The service is asking riders to monitor current weather as well as METRO’s Twitter and Facebook pages for timely information regarding their commutes. Patrons are being advised that the authority operates under the same traffic and weather conditions as the general public.

Sharing resources with METRO to serve the area are: Harris County,  City of Houston and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) with websites providing information about safety, weather, traffic and more during emergencies.

Currently, the Houston area is under a 90 percent chance of rain with flood, flash flood and coastal flood warnings across the region.
