Dallas woman killed by man driving stolen backhoe

An unidentified man stole a backhoe from the City of Dallas Water Department Sunday night and entered the wrong way on a Northwest Dallas freeway, killing one person and hospitalizing another.

Witnesses say the man was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic when he collided with an SUV, the front loader of the backhoe shredding the passenger side of the other vehicle. The passenger, 20-year-old Elizabeth Suarez, was killed on impact. The driver of the SUV, Diana Mejicanos, 22, was taken to a local hospital and is in unknown condition, according to WFAA.

Bleeding from his head and leg, witnesses say the driver of the backhoe fled the scene.

Dallas police are still searching for the suspect.
