Dallas County Health and Human Services officials have confirmed the county’s first pediatric flu-related death of the 2015-2016 flu season was a 2-month old child.
Citing medical confidentiality and personal privacy, the department said in a release Thursday, it will not provide additional identifying information.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a flu vaccination for anyone older than 6 months with rare exceptions and suggests discussing the vaccine with a health care provider. In the Dallas County case, the child was not old enough to have received the vaccine.
Locally, immunizations are offered through health care providers and the City of San Angelo/Tom Green County Health Department, 2030 Pulliam St., Ste. 8. Shots, including the flu vaccine, are administered on Tuesdays only from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The department is closed from noon to 1 p.m.
Updated immunization records are required for each visit. The department only accepts walk-in customers for immunizations. Appointments will not be made.
