Council to consider adoption on ban on texting while driving

City of San Angelo

A second reading of the proposed ban on use of wireless devices while driving is among the items on the consent agenda for Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

Under Chapter 10, Article 10.03, the ordinance would make texting or surfing the Web on a cell phone or other wireless devices illegal while driving. If passed, the offense would be a misdemeanor and a fine up to (but not exceeding) $500 is possible.

Drivers who are not authorized emergency personnel acting in an official capacity are subject to being fined.

City Council meetings can be viewed daily on SATV, Suddenlink cable channel 17, at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
