11th District Congressman Mike Conaway made a brief stop in San Angelo Thursday to visit the new Asian Cultural Center, 528 Orient St., hosted by the San Angelo Association of Asian American Women.
Conaway was on his way to Brady for a chamber of commerce meeting, but took time to tour the facility. AAAW board member Rose Ng gave Conaway a short origami lesson.
In an interview, Conaway credited his staff members, including his San Angelo staffer JoAnne Powell, for making sure he is able to attend as many functions as possible in the district he represents. District 11 covers 29 counties in Texas.
“It doesn’t happen by accident.” he said. “I’ve got some really good people that are looking ahead for me. We try to do at least two in every county. You have to stay disciplined and focused. At the end of the day, if I’m not out and about listening to people and hearing what they have to say, what their thoughts and concerns are, then I really can’t represent them as well as they should be represented.”
This is Conaway’s 11th year as the congressman of District 11. He said he plans to continue doing what he’s doing for his constituents.
