Confrontation between grandmothers leads to shooting in Walmart parking lot

One woman was shot and another arrested at a Dallas Walmart after an argument became dangerous.

The women, Carla Hawkins, 55, and Janice Brown, 53, met at the store late Sunday afternoon to exchange custody of their granddaughter. An argument ensued and when it became physical, Brown pulled out a handgun and shot Hawkins in the neck.

An off-duty police officer witnessed the armed woman running across the parking lot before Brown shot at the officer. He fired back, but no injuries were reported from the exchange, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Brown was apprehended and will be charged with aggravated assault on a public servant.

Hawkins was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
