The American Planning Association named the Concho River Walk in their list of five Great Public Spaces this year.
The program recognizes streets, neighborhoods and public spaces that demonstrate exceptional character, quality and planning.
The APA views these features as some that promote economic growth and community enrichment.
After launching the Great Places in America program in 2007, APA has recognized 275 neighborhoods, streets and public spaces around the country.
For this next year, the public can vote for their favorite public spaces through APA social media using #APAgreatplaces. APA will announce the finalists through their website for the public to vote on and release the winner in November.
San Angelo began working to improve the North Concho River area in the mid-2000s which has helped to draw in tourists and grow community activity.
There may be further expansion in the future.
