Tom Green County Commissioners recognized April as child abuse prevention month during Tuesday’s meeting.
According to the Director of Marketing Services at Children’s Advocacy Center of TGC, LeAnn Hubert, in Texas alone there are 60,000 cases of child abuse and in TGC there are 447 child abuse cases.
“It takes a community to make the changes we need. We need people to speak up and be a part of this movement. We need people to volunteer, donate and help their neighbors. As a community we have to find solutions to this problem and help the children that cannot speak up for themselves,” she said.
The CAC will have a Pin Wheel ceremony at noon Tuesday at the TGC Courthouse, with a guest speaker, music and 200 children who will be there to represent the 447 child abuse cases recorded in TGC.
There will also be a Superhero Run hosted by Chick-Fil-A and CAC at 7 a.m. Saturday, at Chaparral Pavilion inside the San Angelo State Park.
From 2-4 p.m. Sunday, there will be a “Picnic in the Park” at the Kirby park, 1401 Edmund Blvd.
Other items discussed at the meeting were the county-wide burn ban, which will stay lifted until further notice; declaring a large format printer as surplus and authorize the purchasing department to utilize LGC 263.142 “Disposition” to sell to the TGC Appraisal District for $100 and certifying the 2015 TGC Library System annual report for accreditation in the State Library System.
