In Tuesday’s meeting, the San Angelo City Council will discuss policies/ordinances related to registered sex offenders in San Angelo.   According to a report to council, there is currently no ordinance regulating or monitoring registered sex offenders. The police department does maintain a Sex Offender Accountability Program (SOAP). SOAP assigns officers from all divisions to make unannounced visits to all registered sex offender once per quarter.

Some municipalities have ordinances which prohibit any registered sex offender from establishing a temporary or permanent residence near schools, parks and other areas where children gather. They also have ordinances in place they make it unlawful for a sex offender to enter “child safety zones.”
