The San Angelo City Council has unanimously voted to allow for the negotiation of purchase of 1805 and 1806 Harbor Court in an attempt to stop flooding along Avenue P.
City Manager Daniel Valenzuela will be in charge of brokering this deal with landowners. The purchase should cost no more than $600,000.
Should this deal go through, a detention pond will be created in the vacant lots to keep rainwater from flooding the streets and neighboring homes.
This detention pond would be capable of holding water from a 25-year rainstorm.
The city council must still purchase two more pieces of land if this deal goes through in order to begin building the pond and reshaping Avenue P.
Negotiations are ongoing.
