Charter bus overturns, killing eight people in South Texas

Eight people died and more than 40 people were injured and hospitalized Saturday after a charter bus rolled over on U.S. 83 N,  in Webb County north of Laredo, according to Webb County Sheriff’s Office.

Multiple sources are reporting the bus was headed to Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel in Eagle Pass when the incident occurred.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the individuals who lost their lives and those who were injured in this tragic accident,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.

Gov. Greg Abbott and his wife also issued a statement expressing their condolences following the rollover.

“Cecilia and I extend our deepest condolences to those affected by the tragic accident in South Texas today. I ask the entire State of Texas to keep the families of loved ones lost today, as well as the Webb County community, in its thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” the statement reads.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is handling the investigation.
