A four-year-old girl fell down as a 24-year-old man in Victorville, California, tried to snatch her from a store. The fall, Victorville police say, saved her from the would-be abductor’s grasp.
On July 1, sheriff’s dispatch received a call about a man who tried to take a 4-year-old girl from inside a business. Deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to the scene and found out that Terry Ransom had entered the business and grabbed the child, who was standing inside with her mother and infant sibling.
According to a press release from the Victorville Police Department, officers found that Ransom tried to flee the business with the child but lost his grip on her when she fell, just outside of the business.
The victim’s mother was heard screaming by several people nearby who saw Ransom running from the scene and chased him.
Several deputies responding to the call searched the area immediately. Ransom was found near the scene and detained without incident.
The child was scared and upset, according to police, but did not appear to have suffered any physical injuries.
Ransom was evaluated at a local hospital and then booked into the High Desert Detention Center on charges of kidnapping and child cruelty.
