The annual Buffalo Solider Heritage Day will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 28 in Fort Concho National Historic Landmark commissary building, at East Avenue C and Burgess Street. Keynote speaker will be U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen (retired) Ronnie D. Hawkins Jr., who returned to his hometown of San Angelo after his 37-year military career.
There will be a portrayal of Cathay Williams, the only documented female Buffalo Solider in the late 1800s. Members of the Fort Concho Buffalo Soldiers living history program will exhibit equipment displays and demonstrations. A special Buffalo Soldiers exhibit will be available near the Living History Stables.
