Brief vehicle chase ends with truck in flames

A 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck caught fire after an attempted traffic stop on Side View Road and subsequent pursuit Sunday night.

According to a release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, at approximately 11:24 p.m. Sunday, San Angelo DPS troopers initiated a traffic stop on a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado for a defective stop lamp on Side View Road.

As the trooper approached the vehicle he observed the right-side passenger, 27-year old Arturo Mascorro of San Angelo, exit the vehicle.

The driver of the pickup fled the scene as soon as the Mascorro shut the door. Tom Green Sheriff’s deputies immediately followed the fleeing vehicle. Shortly after, the release said, the truck crashed near Rio Concho Drive and the driver fled on foot.

The San Angelo Police Department assisted in the search and the driver, 27-year old Albert Munoz-Gil Jr., of Del Rio, was located near Bosque Park.

During the investigation, it was discovered Munoz-Gil was in possession of 40 grams of methamphetamine and a fugitive out of Val Verde County for fleeing police officers. He was placed under arrest and booked into Tom Green County Jail on charges of evading in a motor vehicle with previous conviction, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance penalty group 1 =>4 grams<200 grams and being a fugitive from justice.
