Border Patrol says illegal immigrants continue to put lives in danger in Rio Grande Valley

The United States Border Patrol said Tuesday that illegal immigrants being smuggled into the Rio Grande Valley continue to risk their lives by being placed into locked trunks and toolboxes to gain entry into the country.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Falfurrias checkpoint had a busy weekend rescuing undocumented immigrants from locked trunks and toolboxes. Sixteen immigrants were discovered in eight separate incidents over the weekend, according to a press release from Customs and Border Patrol.

“Smugglers tried to pass human cargo through the Falfurrias checkpoint met a tough match with service K-9’s and their handlers.” the release said.

Agents managing inspections referred several drivers to a secondary inspection after the drivers behaved nervous at the checkpoint. Four of the cases have been referred for prosecution.

All migrants found in trunks declined medical attention and will be processed accordingly.
